Written task 2
John

Popé
Savage reservation, New Mexico
Dear Popé,
It has been quite a while since I arrived here to the civilization and let me say it is not as my mother and others used to say. For many of the people living here this is the "perfect society", it has no flaws. This statements are far away from what I've seen so far in London.
Since they are born they are separated into different castes, this castes are divided in how intelligent they will be and what job they will develop in the future: the two top tiers are the alphas and betas not only socially but intellectually and governmental. Alphas tend to be more like leaders of science and others fields, and they are chosen to be world controllers or DHC. Betas do this too, but they are more developed in the artistic area. Then the list is followed by the gammas they are what is used to be called average, they develop office work and others jobs like administrate. The deltas are not totally dumb, but smart enough to do the work that nobody else want to do and for last the epsilons they are semi-retarded, and do mainly cleaning work.
You will certainly ask, how they do too kept under control all the castes? they do a conditioning when they are born, they sleep with recorded propaganda playing under their pillows and by an electroshock system. If they actually manage to rebel to the system, they are taken away to be re-educated, like in the case of my friend Bernard he was threatened to go to Iceland. Oh! I forget to mention they are born throw two different processes depending in which castes they will belong. The alphas and betas are born from a single fertilized egg. But in the case of the remaining castes they go throw the Bokanovsky process in which one egg is fertilized and splitted up into identical genetics copies of the original, this process can be repeated several times making 72 a good average. This is way different from what are we used to see like a normal pregnancy.
When it comes to each day problems, in my point of view they have a very unorthodox way to solve them. They take "soma", this is a hallucinogen drug, this drug create a certain feeling to the person that takes it, they say that is a holiday and depending on how much they take is the time they fall asleep. They say that brings all the advantages of Christianity and alcohol, but none of their defects. When I first hear this I went on rage and destroyed a large amount of "soma" supplies, this is an offence towards our religion they should respect us more. They believe in Ford as their "God" because he is the one that started with the industrialization.
Since they are born they are sort of brain-washed and they think that their civilization is constructed under the values of freedom and happiness, but for what I've been watching this far this is only a mere illusion. I recently talked with Mustapha Mond who is one of the seven world controllers, and what I found would be scary to our society. They make a VPS treatment compulsory, this is a violent passion surrogate. Once a month they flood the whole system with adrenin, it is the complete physiological equivalent of fear and rage. They don't have inconveniences, they prefer to do things comfortably. They say we are claiming the right to be unhappy by don't wanting to be comfort, or wanting things like religion, poetry and danger. I found this the other way around we are born to live with this characteristics and this is the way we are going to mature, and live a more pleasant life. Please tell me what you think about this.
Sincerely,
John
Rationale:
“Brave new world” is a well know novel written by Aldous Huxley, this novel anticipates the development of technology and culture. Describing a utopia, in an ironic and ambiguous way. Every bad thing has been eradicated as well all the danger that surround us now, so everyone is permanently happy although this happiness is achieved by leaving somehow humanity behind, all the cultures, religions and many other things have been erased in order to complete this goal.
Throw this letter written by John “the savage” I will explain the different aspects and qualities of the civilization, compared with the savage reservation in New Mexico. I mainly chose this text type because my intention was that Popé knows the truth about what is going on here, and realise that it is not as perfect as Linda used to say. This letter is mainly informal because John although he read, he did not manage the language that well, so I wanted to give the liberty that he can express in a more smoothly way.

Brave New World and Sir William Shakespeare
Part 1:
John the Savage profile
John the Savage
lived in the reservation in New Mexico and his parents were Linda and Thomas (Tomakin,
that was the name that savages give to him) the DHC, he is barely a savage because
he know how to write and read; also that bring him bad consequences, he is
discriminated just like his mother Linda.
When Bernard
Marx arrives to the reservation he established a conversation with John, and he
felt that they were similar in many ways, Bernard decides to take it to the
place he lives because he found that the name of his father was similar to the
one of the DHC; also going to the place that John always wanted to visit
because his mother told him great things about that place.
Part 2:
Comparison between Brave New World and The Tempest
John the
Savage Miranda
Helmotz
Watson Prospero
Mustapha
Mond Ariel
To begin
with I will compare Miranda from The Tempe sans John the Savage from Brave New World;
we can say that both of them kind of live away from the society Miranda lived
in an island, because he was exiled with his father Prospero; and John lived in
a savage reservation in New Mexico because his mother Linda was abandoned. John
lived with his mother at the reservation and he doesn’t know anyone who was
civilized, and rejected by the ones that he lived with; Miranda never have seeing
a human being apart from Caliban (spirit) and his father.
To continue
I will compare Prospero from The Tempest and Mustapha Mond from Brave New
World. Prospero is the father of Miranda and the Duke of Milan, and Mustapha
Mond is one of the ten world controllers; we can say that both of them were very
important and powerful in their society. A point of contrast here is that
Prospero lose all his power and importance because he was exiled and in that
island only lived him and his daughter.
Finally I will
compare Ariel from The Tempest and Helmotz Watson from Brave New World, both of
them are secondary characters, but at the same time help to the development of
the history. Ariel is one of the two spirits that Prospero live in the island
with and he do all the task that Prospero ask to him, and Helmotz have a
feeling of discontent with the World State and share this feeling with Bernard
Marx.

Imagery of Brave New World
List of words:
Squat grey, cold, enormous, thin light, frozen, pale
corpse-coloured rubber, polished tubes, pallid shape.
This description of the Central London Hatchery and
Conditioning Centre give me a very cold impression of the society in those
times. The society on those days obviously was not conscious of the emotional
elements or care about the humans feelings, the images that come to my when I read
the paragraph are very unemotional and creepy because of words like squat grey
and cold, also I think about a laboratory but related with the elements that I talk
before.
To conclude the
people on those times we could say that they only care about technological and
scientific advances and don’t care about humans emotions or feelings.

Comparing Ads
Ob. look for two ads one from the 60´s and the other from the XXI
century.
We look for a
cigars brand called lucky strike.
This is the one that we chose from the 60´s, in the ad we can see a woman Amelia Earhart the first one that tried to do the first air travel around the world. The intended audience is woman that want to succeed in their life and nervous and stressed people that waited for amelia at the image shows "nothing else couldnt help them more to calm their nerves and anxiety than L.S. cigarettes", the stereotype that we can see is a heroic woman, the relation in ad/time that is crearly portrayed in the image is that in that time the cigarette was supossed to don't have health risk as the ad said "No throat irritation-no cough".
