Personal response:
"Some Third Culture Kids have nothing beyond their passports to
connect them with their home country. TCKs lose and gain from the fact they
grow up outside their passport country".
Third culture kids are defined as children’s
who have lived in more than 2 countries or 2 different cultures and they are
often traveling around the world due to specific reasons like their parent's
jobs. When you ask these kids where is home? Or where they feel identified? They
will normally not answer and start thinking.
Firstly I would like to say that the first
part of this statement is very vague and subjective, mainly because a passport
is not the only way to connect someone with a specific culture, this will vague
as the statement but it is not, I can make this clearer with an example. If a
kid is born for example in Italy he will get that country passport and nationality
but he doesn't have only these things to be identified, he will also have all
the memories and influences that the culture give to him.
To
clear out the second part of the statement I would like to say that this is
completely true because this kids not only gain for being more open-minded and
more cultural educated for living in another countries around the world, they
also very flexible to adapt to others countries and know a wide varieties of
languages. Although they also have a lot of disadvantages for example a baffling
sense of belonging and never get used to be in some place or settle down well.
To conclude, I can say that this statement is for one
side vague and subjective and in the other side is very rational and make
sense. This response make us reflect about the reality that the TCKs are used
to live in, and the advantages and disadvantages of being one of them.
